PALMYRA - No worries about not enough snow, after the 2 feet that fell Thursday and Friday. It was questionable whether people could dig out soon enough to get there! Kudos to the Pittsfield snowmobile club for volunteering their time and equipment and diligently dragging and packing the ring areas and the marathon course. Also many thanks to kitchen crew/show secretaries Betty Davis and Linda Archer and ring crew Amy Beem, Robert and Sondra Day, Gloria Kelleher and Judge Jess Small. Jess brought along the University of Maine Equestrian Team to sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle. The raffle was won by Gloria Kelleher. The day was bright and almost warm enough to break out the summer gloves. Two mini's, owned by Hilary Jipson, Tiger and Jen McGarvey, Allie won the best entrance of the day when they arrived tethered in the back of, you guessed it, a mini van. The new snow proved too deep and loose for them so they gave rides in the parking lot instead of competing. We would like to thank the following area businesses who donated door prizes. Beem Farm, Dexter Exxon, P&L Market, Sondra and Robert Day, Katahdin Trail Saddlery, Paris Farmers Union, Hitching Post Tack Shop, Sawtelle Family Farms and Walkerie Livery Service. There were 9 turnouts and 4 junior drivers. High Point junior driver for the day was earned by Katy Hauger. Her mother and teacher Betty Hauger earned high point senior for the day. What a great day! |
